Canadian Idol, Canada’s answer to America’s Got Talent, nears the end of its summer road with a guest-mentor appearance by Kelly Clarkson, the Fort Worth, Tex. native who chucked the aw-shucks demeanour that carried her to the original American Idol title.
Clarkson reinvented herself as a pop-rock artist-with-attitude, as evidenced by the title of her 2004 sophomore album Breakaway. Canadian Idol has always been known for a slightly edgier talent than its bigger, better known American cousin, and Clarkson could have a fount of worldly advice for the Canadian Idol wannabes who remain.
