I don't get around to doing these track reviews as often as I'd like because the truth of the matter is that it can be difficult for me to feign interest in rap music. I don't care if Jay-Z and Nas are putting out albums in another month or so; I didn't really care for the last albums they put out two or three years ago.Plus, I woke up this morning with a pretty wicked hangover. Last night I drank five or ten cans of Busch Light for the first time in a long time, because Bud Light somehow wasn't on sale, and that shit's not agreeing with me at all. Anyway, I figure I'd better pull it together for the release of this, the first single from Jay-Z's much anticipated comeback album Kingdom Come. It's called "Show Me What You Got," obviously XXL has the "exclusive" audio as well as some sort of making of, which I've yet to read.
Just Blaze did the beat, and it's definitely got that huge sound all of his productions seem to have these days, but otherwise I'm not that impressed. I never did enjoy songs with these ridonkulously loud, celebratory horns too much, and this one seems extra grating. I suppose it's kind of a thrill to hear Jay rap on a track by himself for the first time in maybe a year or so, but none of the shit he's kicking hear is especially better than his guest verses on those Beyonce records.
