Gym Class Heroes snagged "Best New Artist" at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards, which took place at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas. The alternative hip-hop outfit beat out contenders Lily Allen, Peter Bjorn and John, Carrie Underwood, and Amy Winehouse to take home the Moon Man.
2007 has proven to be the band’s breakthrough year. "AS CRUEL AS SCHOOL CHILDREN," their second album, has been certified gold by the RIAA, marking sales exceeding 500,000 units. The collection’s success is fuelled by a pair of hit singles, the #1 blockbuster, "Cupid’s Chokehold/Breakfast in America" and the current smash, "Clothes Off!"
Named an "Artist To Watch" by Rolling Stone, the group recently scored a Teen Choice Award for "Choice Music: Breakout Group." USA Today, People, and Entertainment Weekly have all featured the band in their coverage this year.
